#EdTech Thought

This semester, as you may or may not know, I took on the responsibility of serving as a cooperating teacher. The young man I worked with is Luke Wiley. Luke demonstrated some of the best qualities a teacher of any level of experience should exhibit. He came to school each day with an open mind, a willingness to build community, and a positive rapport with our students.

Luke and I have had some great conversations not only about education but also about life.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed having someone push my thinking and question my thought process. Not like an administrator questions you, but rather in a truly inquisitive way in which he’s looking to learn and understand and make sense of my methods.

I don’t know where or Luke’s journey will take him but I know that regardless of where and what he’s doing he has chosen a profession that suites him and I believe he will excel in.

The one thing I knew he had and can’t be taught, is the art of teaching. He knows his history. But more importantly, he has a presence in the classroom, he quickly earned the respect of the room, while equally respecting it back.

Luke recently joined Twitter and I want you to follow him and say hi! His shiny new handle is @LukeWileyED

I certainly would welcome the opportunity to work with a pre-service teacher again. I believe it’s something you should take on if presented with the chance to do so. It’s one of the best ways I can think of to give back to a profession that has given me so much already.

  • Also, https://www.gimkit.com looks like a great option to get teachers out of the Kahoot realm and having an opportunity to give the students time to think about answers and not rush just to be the first to answer a question.

  • I might be a little biased, but Cody Blox and Hands-on Coding are physical coding blocks that can teach computational thinking and coding through kinesthetic acting out of algorithms! It allows users to gain a deeper understanding of the digital blocks they constantly are using in coding!
