Holiday Greetings! 2012 Wrap-up | NJ Educator

Happy Holiday’s everyone!
It doesn’t get much simpler than that.
As you break from the normal routines and embark on your holiday memory making journey take some time to reflect all that you have and the people you have in your life. Too often we don’t take the time to be truly thankful for the people who mean the most or we only do it at this time of year.
During 2012 I became recommitted to my family and my profession. 2011 wasn’t the best year of my career, but part of my professional growth has been learning from all my experiences and making new strides in education. I had the privilege of working as an education technology consultant and learned how to use some fantastic pieces of software as hardware. The hardware I enjoyed working with was both the Elmo line of document cameras and the E-beam IWB by Luidia. This position took me all the way to San Mateo, California for an amazingly fun 48 hours of edtech fun!
Our family grew by one as our son Miles was born in March. I am still on cloud 9 when it comes to my little pal! There is nothing greater than holding him and looking him in the eye, knowing he’s a part of me, and he laughs and smiles the biggest smiles and belts out the most infectious laugh.
April presented a new education opportunity working in an In School Suspension program. While a different experience from other education work I have done and it is rewarding.
In October, I was invited to present at Caldwell College’s 1st Annual Technology Conference. I presented workshop titled, “Social Media Strategies & Best Practices: Your Students & You.” This really sparked my interest in pursuing a career at the collegiate level teaching other people about education technology tools.
I don’t know what 2013 will bring but as 2012 comes to a close I know I have continued to grow and these new experiences will have a positive effect on my approach to teaching and education.
