It's the most wonderful time for a Smackdown! House of #EdTech 124 marks the completion of five years of the podcast and brings you the 5th installment of the annual Smackdown!
This semester, as you may or may not know, I took on the responsibility of serving as a cooperating teacher. The young man I worked with is Luke Wiley. Luke demonstrated some of the best qualities a teacher of any level of experience should exhibit. He came to school each day with an open mind, a willingness to build community, and a positive rapport with our students.
Luke and I have had some great conversations not only about education but also about life.
I don’t know where or Luke’s journey will take him but I know that regardless of where and what he’s doing he has chosen a profession that suites him and I believe he will excel in.
The one thing I knew he had and can’t be taught, is the art of teaching. He knows his history. But more importantly, he has a presence in the classroom, he quickly earned the respect of the room, while equally respecting it back.
Luke recently joined Twitter and I want you to follow him and say hi! His shiny new handle is @LukeWileyED
I certainly would welcome the opportunity to work with a pre-service teacher again. I believe it’s something you should take on if presented with the chance to do so. It’s one of the best ways I can think of to give back to a profession that has given me so much already.
